The National Atomic Museum, located on Kirtland Air Force Base, is the nation’s official museum for the history and science of the Nuclear Age.

Old Town Albuquerque, located on the site of the city’s original settlement, offers a glimpse into the past with shops, restaurants and galleries surrounding Old Town Plaza. Albuquerque also offers botanic gardens, a zoo, and an aquarium. Main shopping areas include the Coronado Center with over 160 stores, ABQ Uptown with approximately 220,000 square feet of retail shops and restaurants, and Cottonwood Mall with four large department stores as well as small shops, boutiques and restaurants. Annual events in the Albuquerque area include the International Balloon Fiesta, the June Music Festival, the Flamenco Festival and the Mariachi Festival.

Santa Fe, the capital of New Mexico, is located north of Albuquerque. The state’s government offices are located here as are a variety of galleries, historic buildings and churches and a large plaza. Taos is north of Santa Fe and features galleries, upscale shopping, and ski resorts.
